We were taking a country, yes, a COUNTRY, to court. 💪👩⚖️
🌟I had worked for this kind of moment all my life. 🌟 The kind of moment that I thought would lead me to a life of impact and fulfillment... and I was wrong...😭 Since I was 6 years old, I had this one obsession in mind: international positive impact. 🗺👊🔥 I was the one weird kid in middle school who sat alone on field trips and thought about world hunger and poverty. 💛🙏 In high school, I had pictures of Ghandi, Mandela, and other international leaders on my wall, next to the boy band of the decade. As I saw the people that made a difference at this global level, they all had something in common, they were all lawyers, so I decided I needed to join the lawyers' club...⚖️ While in high school I started and ran the international club. Then, at UC Berkeley I ran the International Student Association and was part of the United Nations Traveling Team. I represented Nigeria at Harvard University, and Germany in China. 🌍 I worked my ass off during college and graduated a semester early speaking five languages (after arriving in the US not speaking a word of English and being made fun of for my broken accent). I was on my way to making a change internationally! Or so I thought... At 22 years of age, I spent this "extra semester" in the Netherlands working on the Charles Taylor case. Charles Taylor was the Ex-President of Liberia who was found guilty of abetting horrific war crimes, including rape and mutilation in Sierra Leone. 💔🙅 Sitting in that courtroom, my belief that I needed to be a lawyer to make a change was strengthened. I saw these attorneys dedicating their lives to provide some semblance of reparations in the lives of people affected by this horrific violence... Fast forward to Berkeley Law, where I was the president of the International Law Association, became an international law research aide to one of our top International Law professors, spent a summer in the Netherlands again working on a huge International Criminal Justice Project, and graduated with a certification in International Human Rights Law... Now officially 13 years into my obsession with international impact ... Can you imagine the inner turmoil I grappled with as I realized that the legal system, wasn't all that I painted it out to be in my mind? That when it came to making REAL change, long-lasting, sustainable, meaningful change... this was just not going to cut it ... Not only that, but I was sacrificing my wellbeing, happiness, health, to be part of a system that only ADDRESSED international issues, but didn't actually lead to REAL change in the lives of people... I felt cheated, sad, hurt, angry, so disappointed. But I was not about to give up on my obsession, on my one big goal. 💥👊 And this was when I attended my first business hackathon, and I was introduced for the first time to the world where entrepreneurship and impact came together. And it was in THAT moment where my whole life came into focus and I UNDERSTOOD where my work was needed - international entrepreneurial impact. 🔥🙌🌍 Impact entrepreneurs. People changing the world as we know it, tackling the world's biggest issues through the vehicle of BUSINESS. 🌟This was IT. I was HOOKED. I KNEW this was why I was put on this earth. This was my calling, my mission. 💛 Last month I was in Guatemala, where that fire of international impact was rekindled. I connected with INCREDIBLE international entrepreneurs with huge goals and dreams. But more than dreams, these entrepreneurs are taking ACTION now. They are changing the world now. 📈🚀💰 They have ambitious aspirations not only for their business but also for their city, country, their entire continent, and the world. 👉THIS IS WHY I WAS PUT ON THIS PLANET.
